Green and Black Cardamon Tea

Total Time:  35 min.
Prep Time:     5 min.
Cook Time:  30 min.

  • 3 cardamom black pods
  • 3 cardamon green pods
  • 4 white peppercorns or black peppercorns
  • 4 cloves
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 4 slices fresh ginger, quarter slices

Note:  If you don’t have both kinds of cardamon available, you can use either color.

In a small sauce pan heat 2 1/2 cups water (don’t bring to boil) and add the ingredients.

Heat for half an hour and then strain.

I like my tea without sugar and milk, but feel free to add some if you like.  I would sugar white sugar or honey as a sweetener.

 

The tea has an earthy and hearty flavor you can adjust your ingredients to your taste.  Next time I think I will add another clove and cinnamon stick…I just adore those flavors.

Some health benefits of Cardamon

  1. Cardamom is related to ginger and can be used in much the same way to counteract digestive problems. Use it to combat nausea, acidity, bloating, gas, heartburn, loss of appetite, constipation, and much more.
  2. In India they chew cardamom after meals or whenever they need to freshen their breath.
  3. Apart from helping with bad breath, cardamom is used for mouth ulcers and infections of the mouth and throat. Cold and Flu – This pungent spice may help prevent and relieve cold and flu symptoms. It’s also used for bronchitis and coughs.
  4. Like ginger and turmeric, its relatives, cardamom has some anti-inflammatory properties that limit pain and swelling, especially in mucus membranes, the mouth, and throat.
  5. Cardamom is a good source of minerals like potassium, calcium, and magnesium.
  6. It is also an excellent source of iron and manganese.

  1. every time I have and ginger this month I have thought of one of Cee’s posts from a few weeks ago! lol. and well, looking forward to trying this tea.

    also, I know nothing about Cardamon – but do know that cloves have anti-parasite properties and so this tea obviously has many benefits….
